The 2016 Long Beach Zine Fest went down Sunday afternoon under sunny skies and great live performances from Avi Buffalo, Bootleg Orchestra, The Potential Lunatics and our personal favorite the all girl surf punk band from San Pedro Bombon.

It was a packed house with lots of great work to check out shuffling down the isles while sipping cold Coronas. Definitely got some inspiration running and excited to dive into our next issue of What Youth full of fresh ideas. Check out some of our favorites below:

Compound Butter created by cousins Jaya and Jessie Niceley is always a stand out. They’re on their 4th issue, each one has their own theme and this cover for “Rotten” absolutely nails it. Check out more of their mags here.

The Districts and Sun Club tour photos A new zine called CAKE by Caitlin McCann

I hopped onto the last three weeks of a full US tour with The Districts and Sun Club, catching up with them in Texas and making our way back up to the northeast. The District’s are from Philly (where I also currently reside) and Sun Club are some colorful boys from Baltimore. Neither band sounds…

Let’s Talk About the F Word Zine swapping at PS1 MOMA in a new “Newsstand”

I grabbed this zine at the New York Art Book Fair at PS1 Moma in 2011. There’s no crazy story attached to it. I don’t even remember who the artist was and the site listed in the zine doesn’t work. It was just a nice reminder that things can be simple and fun to make.

The Newsstand: Dekka Vol. 1 Derek Dunfee on his first zine and the release of Vol. 2

The Newsstand: Junkzine 1 For Junkies and Crumblers: A zine by Gregory Siff

I got this zine in the mail when I worked at Surfing Magazine. We did a zine submission contest for a RVCA prize kit and I forget what happened but we never got the goods so we never announced a winner (full disclosure!).  This zine Junkzine 1 was the clear winner in my eyes. The hand…

If you’re really lucky you’ll be good at one thing. Then there’s the rare breed of people who are exceptionally good at many things. One of those people is our good friend, Jeff Fribourg. Originally rooted in shooting photos and filming skateboarding, Jeff has expanded his repertoire far beyond that. He worked under Patrick O’Dell…
