I just got a new magazine in the mail yesterday. Forgot I even ordered it actually. That’s the best. Search the Internet for rad shit, put 16 numbers on a dotted line and forget all about it. Two weeks later, a book shows up at your doorstep. The joy that comes with tearing into a new package, peeling the plastic from the untouched book and getting that first whiff of ink on paper, there’s not much else like it.

I don’t buy them as often as I should, but when I look at my growing collection, there isn’t one stack of pages I regret dropping money on. They’ll all be on my shelf for the rest of my life. I’ve had books recommended to me, books given to me and I’ve stolen a few from friends, but the best are the ones I found by accident. Digging through the odd news rack in the LES, flipping through Northern European Fashion websites, they all lead to pieces that people like myself are passionate about making. I love getting new books because every one I’ve ever opened leads to new ideas. Some of which end up in our own publication that I get to share with you quarterly. Inspiration comes best when you’re holding it in your hands, smelling the ink. —Scott

Dear Youth A Treatise on Art and Coffee

Coffee is a drug. That’s masked by ubiquity and social acceptance but it’s just hot speed. Black hot wonderful speed. That thought lingered last Saturday morning as a nice young man in a waxed-cotton apron and mustache — and not a November mustache, but a real annual subscription to the thing — fixed my Guatemalan…
