Rewind Me: 5’5″ x 19 1/4″ With Matt Biolos and Mike Reola

Chris Ward. Cory Lopez. Andy Irons. Bruce Irons, all running wild in the ocean with a bunch of little discs under their feet, completely disregarding the modern surfboard trends of 1997 and in the process kickstart a surfing renaissance of fuck you. And it all started as a bunch of dudes crashing on a couch in need of a ride to Lowers.

Shaper Matt Biolos and Chris Ward’s little surfboard experiment and Mike Reola’s awareness to document it all led to one of the raddest cult films to ever be released. It’s hard to believe that Matt’s been cranking out a version of this board for over 15 years now. But after our recent trip to Indo with Kolohe Andino, Taj Burrow, Ian Crane, Luke Davis and Tanner Rozunko (more on this trip soon), it’s safe to say these things still fucking rule.
We catch up with Matt and Mike today and show you just how important this little “fish” film actually is.

The ’90s were dominated by Taylor Steele. His videos were clean, had great music, few funny skits, always got you psyched. But it wasn’t the only game in town. There were also …Lost vids, and for the deeper collector: There was Voluptuous. Voluptuous had everyone in it and more. Plus one of the best soundtracks…
