There was jazz in the water. We walked up to a famed (and notoriously sharky) Australian point break to meet up wit Rasta and Ozzie — who were already in the water. The wind was onshore, but the sand was good and rights were pouring in. The lineup was littered with whitecaps, but then two waves were ridden in succession that reminded me why we surf. It was one part tap dance, one part barroom brawl. Poetic and reckless. Rasta and Ozzie. Two entirely different approaches in absolute harmony. I hadn’t watched either of these dudes surf in some time, and in person, it was a spontaneous beat box of ripping good times. Here’s just a glimpse to get you going this weekend.
As we enter the age of mechanical technologically advanced surfing, this gets me every time.
