A North Shore gathering for Dylan RVCA and Mark Oblow create a Hawaiian night that can only happen on the North Shore

Things happen on the North Shore that don’t and can’t happen anywhere else. I’m now thoroughly convinced of that. The other night at the RVCA Pipeline house we held a small bbq along with Mark Oblow and RVCA and a very limited number of our Dylan Rieder issues. The waves had fired all day long right out front and spirits were very high at sunset as the grill and music kicked off.

That’s when the magic of Hawaii kicks in.

A who’s who of family and friends, Hawaiian locals and legends came by, as did every surfer, skater and artist within earshot — which in these parts can be staggering. Kelly Slater and Alex Knost sat in the grass together and watched Ford Archbold and Lily Meola do a music set while Bruce Irons and Herbie Fletcher hung in the living room, leaving a trail of legend (and vape smoke) wherever they went. Danny Fuller, Kala Alexander, Dustin Barca, Lyndie Irons, Betet Merta, Evan Mock, Greyson Fletcher, Mahina Alexander, Curren Caples, Spanky Long, Colin Moran, Ellis Ericsson and many many more hung out and waited in line for original block prints from Mark Oblow and a limited number of the Dylan Rieder issues. The vibe and crew in attendance honestly made for a very warm and fitting evening for releasing the Dylan Rieder issue in Hawaii.

Big thanks to the guys at RVCA for opening their doors and firing up the grill. A night none of us will forget for a very long time. Forever Dylan. Aloha and Mahalo. —Travis

I still haven’t seen Cluster either And it’s being made in the room next to me

I didn’t think I’d have to write that. But there it is. The morning of the premiere and I still haven’t seen the damn thing. After a week in the desert, followed by an even more dehydrated stint in the lizard den known as the What Youth editing bay, Kai and Blake are still the…

Dear Youth One more Aloha from Hawaii (with Quinn Matthews)

We just had to say aloha one more time. This time Quinn Matthews says farewell to the island. It’s been exactly a year now since Quinn Matthews caught our eye with his photos from Hawaii, and this year was a stellar sophomore campaign. Always fresh, and always rad angles.

Dear Youth Swimming at Pipe: Quinn Matthews

Editor’s Note: Every time Quinn does something (anything), it’s probably his first time. And while I think he’d swam and shot at Pipe before, these were definitely the biggest waves he’d ever swam in. Which lends for good reading, especially when you line it up with the results you see below. Quinn wrote this and…

Dear Youth 15 photos from North Shore: Quinn Matthews

Last year it was his fresh approach in Hawaii that caught our eye. And throughout the year he’s continued to amaze and baffle us simultaneously with his awe of the world around him and ability to get the wildest shots at the least likely of times. Quinn Matthews is a shy, unassuming, extremely green but…
