Sam Evian, the project of New York-based musician Sam Owens, sounds like a cool breeze on a warm drive down the coast, the waves crispy on the horizon and the sun partially blinding the road. His second album You, Forever, drops June 1st on Saddle Creek Records, and the lead single “Health Machine” is bursting with follow-up, ready to impress, soul-baring stamina. Plus it’s laced with a wailing saxophone that’ll spin your brain in a spiral. Always yes to saxophones. Sam’s 2017 single “I Remember,” is one of my favorite tracks from last year, and if that counts for anything, I’m guessing You, Forever, will topple that, and then some.

Dallas singer-songwriter Ari Roar – real name Caleb Campbell – has a subtle similarity to Mac DeMarco, which can never be a bad thing. His debut album Calm Down, dropping May 25th on Bella Union, draws on ’60s pop and “modern DIY heroes” (cue Mac Daddy). Check out new single “Implode,” a song he wrote about the repetitive nature of dating in single life. “I guess it’s my diary entry to the annoyance that can bring when you start reliving the same experience over and over.”

Croatian singer-songwriter Saša Ljuboja, who goes by Pedlar 76, has somehow tapped into the sound of KROQ from 1999 and peddled out this incredibly angsty, borderline emo gem of a single “Try,” self-released through Northern Transmissions. Citing Sonic Youth and The Cure as musical heroes, Saša’a alt-rock nostalgia will spin you down a much needed memory lane.
