GØGGS Announce New Album

Ready? GØGGS, the heavy shredding project of Chris Shaw, Ty Segall, Michael Anderson and Charles Moothart, are finally releasing their sophomore album Pre Strike Sweep on September 28th via In The Red Records. Listen to the title track and prepare for some eardrum pain, in a good way. Says Shaw of the song: “‘Pre Strike Sweep’ is about undergoing a drastic change and creating your own reality. It’s a song about trust, destruction, and rebirth. Sometimes you got to blow everything up and start from a new beginning.”

And while we’re on the topic of new albums, psych-pop scoundrels Mystic Braves are dropping their latest effort, The Great Unknown, on August 17th through Lolipop Records. If you’re unfamiliar with the Braves, they look, taste, and sound like a swirling mix of The Byrds and The Zombies, and for a more modern comparison, a less surf-tinged version of Allah-Las. Check out new single “Shades of Grey,” a jangly, upbeat trip straight out of 1967, without the acid regret.

Exploded View is the international amalgamation of Berlin and Mexico City-based musicians, and their vibe reflects that diverse pairing of sounds. It’s synth-heavy, apocalyptic, almost like the soundtrack to a Cronenberg film. On “Sleepers,” the new single off their second full-length album Obey, that doom is clear and present, disjointing even, yet strangely, inexplicably appealing. Watch the video, directed and shot by lead singer Annika Henderson, as she descends on a desolate metro station. Is someone chasing her? We’ll never know.

Loudon Wainwright III is best known for being a folksinger. But that didn’t stop him from accumulating a “full blown rock band” to record his 1976 album T Shirt, a complete flop which received such scathing reviews that Loudon spent a good five days in bed sulking. And sure, the album as a whole could be better, but listen to standout track “Prince Hal’s Dirge,” a bristling, epic, anthem-style banger that depicts the life of a future king wasting away in brothels and pubs.
