Dear Youth: Take us back to Pinnytown

Pinnytown Surfing Road-trip Dear Youth What Youth

Last month we went to Copenhagen, Denmark to film The Copenhagen Project. The boys at Monster put us up at The Tivoli hotel (which is pretty much like the Disneyland Hotel) and let Arto Saari be our guide. We spent 8 days traveling like a wolf pack on bikes to all the known and unknown spots across the incredibly beautiful and rather progressive city of Copenhagen. We spent a lot of time learning, comparing and experiencing skate culture in one of it’s modern epicenters.

And now that the timeline is being chopped and edited, we wanted to begin introducing some of the rad dudes we got to hang with. There was Ishod Wair from Philadelphia who could not stop talking about how sick it would be to get barreled. Peter Ramondetta, an Oklahoma born, San Francisco living bad ass with some of the sickest Satanic tattoos we’ve ever seen and a hurricane grind that is beyond gnarly. Shane O’Neill, probably the smoothest, most technically perfect cat in the game.

We also got to spend time with some living legends, including Copenhagen’s own Rune Glifberg, and Pontus Alv, the Godfather of Sweden’s DIY skating and composer of The Strongest of the Strange, one of the best skate vids we’ve ever seen. We also had Curren Caples and his John John clip-filled iPhone along getting the skaters psyched on surfing.  All of us, one big bumfight of personalites touring around the city, blasting Joy Division, following Arto — the single-most epic dude we’ve gotten to hang with. Stay tuned for all the release dates for the film, the imagery by Arto, the event and the zine.

Coming soon.

Dear Youth The fun that leads to sleep paralysis

“Never trust a thought that didn’t come from walking.” That’s a quote by an old madman by the name of Friedrich Nietzsche. He’s an existential pioneer and had one hell of a dark passenger throughout his life. But the man sure did drop some wisdom while he was here. I bring this up as a bit…

Dear Youth A Treatise on Art and Coffee

Coffee is a drug. That’s masked by ubiquity and social acceptance but it’s just hot speed. Black hot wonderful speed. That thought lingered last Saturday morning as a nice young man in a waxed-cotton apron and mustache — and not a November mustache, but a real annual subscription to the thing — fixed my Guatemalan…
