Two things. Ty Segall dropped another single. And it’s a cover of Hot Chocolate’s “Every 1’s A Winner.” Didn’t think a semi-disco, soul classic could work as a scuzzed-up, reverb-drenched, shred fiesta of sludgy rock ‘n’ roll? Press play. Prepare to have mind blown.

Second, Segall’s been casually dropping lots of singles lately, if you haven’t noticed. And up until yesterday, I kept being told that there would be no album. “Ty’s really just focusing on one song at a time for the moment.” Turns out sometimes you get lied to, which I’m okay with. Because the album to be released is better than I thought it would be. And sure I’m biased because Ty still fucks with my spidey spenses and gets me all tingly with the relentless barrage of new music he puts out that’s actually good. The album’s called Freedom’s Goblin, and it drops January 26th via Drag City Records. So keep your ears open. We’ll be plugging this one until the end. —Maya Eslami
