The Sufis, a self-described Anglo-Indian American duo formed by Calvin Laporte and Evan Smith, have perfected their own musical universe. After building their dream recording studio in Nashville in 2011, The Sufis got their sound ball rolling and released their debut in the summer of 2012 on Ample Play, which garnered them much deserved attention from Rough Trade, and drew comparisons to the stripped-down minimalism of the Velvet Underground. And sure, lots of bands crave that gilded name drop, but few actually deserve it.

Now, with the help of local heroes Burger Records, their third album After Hours is ready to go. The entire thing was recorded in June of this year and mastered by the legendary Greg Calbi (Father John MIsty, Tame Impala, David Bowie). Listen to the first taste with single “Anymore,” which gives me some serious Zombies vibes, and sways with a subtle grace that’s more often than not lacking in contemporary bands. So dig deep on these dudes, and watch out for their album, dropping in early January of next year. –Maya Eslami
