Premiere: Watch “Sweet Time” A new music video by Billy Changer

Billy Changer, Robert Cifuentes’ band that played our Issue 12 release party last year, has a new video out for his single “Sweet Time”, off his self-titled debut. The wonderfully synthed jangle that beams both pop and surf influences was our favorite song of 2015, and we’re beyond stoked to premiere the video today.

Directed by Alexandra Cabral, the mildly not-safe-for-work video combines an analog aesthetic with seductive simplicity to present a couple, seemingly in love (or lust), awash in a sea of white sheets, as Cifuentes sings out, “My baby, she won’t give me her sweet time.”

“I wanted the video experience to be experimental rather than constructed,” says Cabral, “so I chose to shoot with super 8 film for it’s spontaneity and fluidity. Two close friends of mine who were wildly in love were cast to star in the music video, the girl was about to leave for a 6 week trip traveling across south east Asia. Given the tension that had started to develop in preparation of her absence, I thought that having them kissing in one take until the film roll was finished would portray the longing in ‘Sweet Time’.  I placed a mattress in a completely empty space, and asked the couple to start embracing one another . Their eagerness for one another translates gracefully through the camera, the couple has since split and I think visually the music video captures a really beautiful moment of youth.” Nothing like a beautiful moment of youth paired with a killer song to nail a video.

Billy Changer is touring with Moving Units and Broncho through May and into June. Check the dates below, and make sure to watch his video. It’s the perfect turn on for a Thursday. –Maya Eslami
