It’s 25 years later. But it all feels so right now. All of it.
We recently sat down with Kelly and had him do a bit of remembering about the year 1990, when he was sleeping on the cat-piss infested (and more) floor of then Quiksilver team manager (and eventual Volcom co-founder) Richard “Wooly” Woolcott, surfing contests and filming for a video (that wasn’t even meant to be a full-length movie) and has come to be the definitive introduction to our King.
In today’s trip down memory lane Kelly takes us behind the scenes, explains what may be the reasoning behind his early obsession with proving people wrong, his charm, his skills, his marketability. It’s all blooming in this film. Pretty rad to sit down with the man himself, who is still just as exciting now as he was as an up and coming hype machine. God damn it’s been a good 25 years, Kelly.
Be sure to check back to What Youth tomorrow as we’ll be streaming the film, Kelly Slater in Black and White in it’s entirety.
Special thanks to Kelly Slater, Richard Woolcott, Troy Eckert and Channel Islands Surfboards for making this Rewind Me happen.
