Because of the sensationalist potential of this story, it was kinda hard to tell how serious it was. We talked to Dane’s wife Courtney and she said Dane’s being let go now and is OK. It’s been a few very sleepless days and nights for her due to some head-scratching policy in Portugal for a lost passport, but nonetheless he’s free.
Dane flew from LA to London, then London to Lisbon and lost the passport somewhere between the plane and Portuguese customs. “When he got to the customs line they said he’d have to go back to the Embassy in London, Courtney said. “But they just harbored him for a few days instead.”
Which seems a little strange.
“It was fine, just an odd protocol for a lost passport. He obviously had it at some point to get to Portugal, but they treated him like they found him tunneling in.”
Needless to say, we’re all happy Dane is OK now. I’m sure he needs a non-Portuguese lager and a hug from the family.—Travis
