WY Premiere: Black Sea Watch their video for new single “Apprehension Review”

Local dream gaze heartbreakers Black Sea, the project of songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Cole Devine, are finally releasing their debut album, Disappointing Sunset. And today, we’re happy to premiere the video for lead single, “Apprehension Review”. Heavy on dream-pop with hints of post punk throughout – think My Bloody Valentine on uppers – Black Sea consists of Devine, Max Royer, and Sage Ross, and, as their site states, should be listened to while driving as fast as you can at 3am. I back it.

“It’s exciting to finally release the single for this album,” Devine told me. “When I recorded ‘Apprehension Review’, it gave me a lot of perspective. In a way, it set the curve for my expectations of this album. ‘Disappointing Sunset’ has 11 songs, and I’m really satisfied with the final product. I wanted to make something lasting, and I think our fans will really enjoy this record.”

Their album has been playing nonstop on my headphones, and if that’s any indication of what’s to come from Black Sea, I’m ready. So watch their new video, and keep an eye on these guys. –Maya Eslami

Black Sea play August 8th at the Bootleg Theater in Los Angeles.
