Black Lips have a new album coming out, wonderfully titled Satan’s graffiti or God’s art?, their official eighth studio release. Produced by Sean Lennon and featuring a contribution from queen Yoko Ono, the Lips’ latest also features new members Oakley Munson on drums and Zumi Rosow on sax. The band released the first taste of the album this week with lead single, “Can’t Hold On”, a thumping, contagious reminder that the Black Lips, like wine, only get better with age. Listen up.

I saw the Black Lips play at Pappy and Harriet’s years ago, and during the soundcheck, one of those fools steadily strummed out the eerie chords of Link Wray’s “Genocide” – side note, if you don’t know what that song is, you’re blowing it. And although Wray’s impact on contemporary bands is far and wide when it comes to anything garage psych sounding, “Can’t Hold On” pulsates with his enormous, irrefutable influence.
