Monday blues are a real thing, especially when it’s past noon and your caffeine high’s worn off and all you wanna do is crawl back in bed. To that I say, go ahead and crawl. And while you’re there in the warmth of your blankets, watch Shana Cleveland & The Sandcastles’ new video for their single “Butter & Eggs”, off their beautiful debut Oh Man, Cover The Ground out now on Suicide Squeeze.
“Butter and Eggs is a song about being a little creature in the wilderness and about being with someone who doesn’t get it. I filmed this with my boyfriend Will out in Malibu and a bit in Joshua Tree. We projected the footage onto our living room wall and filmed the projection on a cell phone. I think that process gives the whole thing a sort of hazy distance as though you were seeing someone’s photos of a diorama at the Natural History Museum.”
You may recognize Shana as the frontman and guitarist for the garage surf band La Luz. But here, with her Sandcastles, she’s a much different force to be reckoned with, and I’m super into it. With it’s pleasantly somber melody and tone, reminiscent of Hope Sandoval, “Butter & Eggs” is the perfect cure for your weekend hangover. –Maya Eslami
