The Parrots, Madrid’s trio of garage-punk bandits, have been buzzing at the top of our radar for a while now. And today, in an exclusive for WY, we’re premiering their new video for “No Me Gustas, Te Quiero”, off their upcoming debut Los Niños Sin Miedo.
Directed and edited by Hache, the video features the band (Diego García, Alex de Lucas and Larry Balboa) wandering through the mesmerizing Chefchaouen region of Morocco, playing futbol, and basically living out our fantasy. Watch the video, and read our quick interview with the band below. –Maya Eslami
WHAT YOUTH: We love the video. Was it shot in Morocco?
THE PARROTS: Yeah you got us, we filmed the video in the north of Morocco, specifically in the area of Chaouen, between mountains of weed plantations.
Can you tell us about the experience?
The experience was great, we hadn’t been there before and everybody treated us amazingly. Some of them were really impressed that we were filming in their little town, while others just wanted to remain anonymous for obvious reasons.
Who directed the video? And why Morocco?
The video is directed by Hache. We´ve always had the dream of doing a video in Morocco. It´s a place that always influenced us, we looked up with some kind of romanticism, and this was the first real chance to finally make it happen. We wanted to get inside the Chaouen culture and see what makes lots of Europeans go down there and come back with cars full of hash, and on the way get rid of lots of prejudices and burn some magic plants.
You guys are wearing futbol jerseys in the video. Are you all huge fans?
We are huge futbol fans, although we are divided in the teams we love (Atletico and Real Madrid) and that sometimes leads to fights in the band. The thing was that in Morocco there´s a huge market for clothing replicas, which we love, and we wanted to get into their culture all the way 100%.
