The Garden will most likely hate being referred to as punk crusaders, but since their birth as a band in 2011, Wyatt and Fletcher Shears have bulldozed pigeonholes and musical boundaries by maintaining a level of dont-give-a-fuck charisma matched with unbridled talent. The twins, who perform as a two piece band with only bass, drums and vox, even coined their own genre, “Vada-Vada,” which they describe as “an idea that represents pure creative expression, that disregards all previously made genres and ideals.” Still, I’m gonna go ahead and call them punk crusaders. Deal with it.

With four releases under their belts – 3 EPs and their debut LP, The Life and Times of a Paperclip (via Burger in 2012), The Garden are itching to drown the world in their next concoction of toxic, finger licking, sexually suggestive ear blowing chaos.

Subliminally titled haha, their second full length album, due out October 9th on Burger, seems to be making the twins antsy with excitement. They’ve already released four tracks from the album on SoundCloud for our listening pleasure, two videos – with a third dropping Friday – and scheduled their record release show for October 15th at the Teragram Ballroom.

So whatever you want to call the Garden, be it punk or neo-punk or vada-vada or whatever, listen up, and see them live. The twins moonlight as models when they’re not shredding and certainly know how to put on an entertaining show. —Maya Eslami
