Think you know everything about the Oh Sees? Think again. On their new single “Memory of a Cut Off Head,” the title track off yet another album set to drop November 17th via Castle Face, Oh Sees’ frontman and mastermind John Dwyer slips back, way back, to a softer side of his repertoire. And, to spice it up just a tad more for everyone, he’s now going by OCS – something he hasn’t done since 2003 (according to the Internet). The song, and entire album, feature Dwyer’s longtime collaborator and vocal counterpoint Brigid Dawson, who breathes whimsical, gentle life into OCS’ otherwise ear-shattering riffs. Instead, we hear melodies, flush with strings and horns and layers of soothing arrangements. I, personally, am very into loud bands testing tranquil waters. And you should be too. So listen up. –Maya Eslami
