WY Premiere: Palo Duro Listen to new single, “True Fade”

Palo Duro, the new project of Austin-based musician Michael J. Winningham, is a technicolor ride through pulsating beats and rhythms. No wonder producer Danger Mouse’s record label, 30th Century Records, hopped on board to release his new album, Ryou Cannon, dropping September 29th. Listen to new single, “True Fade,” a moody, drum heavy escape with layered vocals and vibes that’ll remind you of Arcade Fire, in a good way.

“True Fade was one of the first songs Sam Cohen and I wrote and recorded for this record. Most of the sessions took place in a crazy studio near Wimberley,  about 1hr outside of Austin.  They had a nice piano though and the owner used to play with Peter Rowan. We slept in a converted chapel and played intense games of tetherball after our sessions. They even had weddings out there sometimes…

I think True Fade has a kind of Suicide-esque pulse. The looping guitar played by a mallet and the vocal accents were ideas that began a certain willingness to let these songs go anywhere. Sam and I had a high tolerance to just let ideas emerge and try them. Dan Molad (of Lucius) mixed this song and added to the essence. Very happy to release it into the world.”

Palo Duro is blowing up on Spotify right now, making both the Fresh Finds and undercurrents playlists, as well as Danger Mouse’s official playlist. So get on there and check them out. Easy. –Maya Eslami
