Washington-based trio Baby Island describe themselves as power pop, and their new track “Break The Lease” off their forthcoming album of the same name, is a legit “power pop slap to your landlord’s face.” Their 90s inspired video, complete with fuzzed out visuals and antics all around, is the perfect compliment. “The video,” they told me, “is a hybrid of over-saturated 80’s color tv, broken iPhones, and Steve Brule style lo-fi, replete with vomit, self-injurious behavior, and idol worship. Free yourself! You can change your mind! There is a way out!”
Break The Lease is Baby Island’s follow-up album to their 2012 self-titled cassette only debut. Comprised of member’s from The Format and LAKE (of K Records), their sophomore has been a long time coming. So check out the video, and if you like what you see, click below and pre-order their album. It drops August 18th on Hello Records. –Maya Eslami
