Local dreampop band Winter make ethereal bedroom songs that’ll make you think you’ve slipped back into the ’90s. In a good way. On their new track “Jaded”, Winter embody that sentiment and sound, pulling inspiration from Weezer, the Breeders, and all things old school KROQ, and plays like it belongs on the 10 Things I Hate About You soundtrack. Listen up.
“Jaded”, recorded and produced by Lewis Pesacov (Best Coast, FIDLAR), is about, well, being jaded. But more specifically in regards to the music scene, which can exhaust even the best of us. “The lyrics tells the story through an outsiders perspective: seeing a band show up late to soundcheck, acting tired and bored, even forgetting how to play their own songs. It’s a meditation on being a musician or anyone working in an over saturated industry, at a time where you can feel so overwhelmed and undervalued.” Singer, guitarist Samira Winter wrote the song after a similarly desensitizing night at Non Plus Ultra (RIP).
Performed by Samira Winter on vocals, guitar, Matt Hogan on lead, Justine Brown on bass and backing vocals, and Ross Chait on drums, “Jaded” is the first taste of Winter we’ve had since last year. The track is up digitally everywhere tomorrow, so get your first lick here. And check out tour dates below. —Maya Eslami
