Money. Roses. And a black leather glove. These images induce all sorts of titillating references in my brain, and the artwork for Toronto-based Peeling’s debut EP Rats in Paradise falls nothing short of that. Filled with four lusty, “sex positive”, post-punk garage tracks, Peeling know exactly what they’re doing. And that comes as no surprise. Frontwoman Annabelle Lee, whose raspy, drawled voice reminds me of Sade Sanchez of L.A. Witch, hails from noise punkers Mexican Slang, and along with Dilly Dally’s Jimmy Tony Rowlinson on bass, Alejandro Cairncross on guitar, and Buzz Records’ Denholm Whale on drums, these seasoned musicians got that sultry slide down.
