Listen to Axis: Sova Fuzzy psych-punk on Ty Segall’s God? Records

When I first stumbled upon Axis: Sova, the new psych-punk (for lack of a better word) band on Ty Segall’s Drag City imprint, God? Records, I did that thing where you judge a band by its name and didn’t really give them a chance. And boy did I blow it. Axis: Sova’s sound is pure fuzz rock chaos. What began as the one-man operation of Chicago-based Brett Sova later evolved to include guitarist Tim Kaiser and engineer Cooper Crain, to really round out their gritty, lo-fi “robo-rock” vibe. “Rife with percolating boogie, suicidal punk shredders and cavernous rock,” their new album Motor Earth drops October 14th, and its “array of songs in tightly wound chugs” sounds like the perfect album to help us plunge into fall. So listen up. –Maya Eslami
