Wolf People, a band I’d easily believe were some obscure, untapped early ’70s Swedish stoner metal band, are releasing a new album in November on Jagjaguwar, and today they’re sharing the lead single, “Ninth Night”. Taking cues from Iron Claw, early Sabbath and Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac, Wolf People are drenched in sludgy, doom-laden psych folk, and their new album Ruins, if the rumors are true, should be their heaviest yet. Comprised of Jack Sharp (guitar, vocals), Dan Davies (bass), Tom Watt (drums) and Joe Hollick (guitar), these dudes and their self-proclaimed “beardo wizard shit” vibe have managed to retain that proto pathos while harnessing the power of modern technology. So listen up. And if you’re in the UK, please see them live for me. After witness their raw power, the Portland Mercury proclaimed them “one of the best rock bands in the world”, and any reference like that definitely has my attention. –Maya Eslami
