The Growlers are maybe the most inventive band in our current musical bubble. After cementing themselves as lo-fi, DIY surf rats with twangy guitars and haunting, reverbed vocals, they teetered on their own style, basically rejecting their “beach goth” sound, and instead resurfaced with a whole new flavor. And I can’t even wrap my head around how to define it. Which is what I love most about the Growlers. They don’t give a fuck what you call their music. They just want you to listen to it.
Their new album, City Club, drops September 30th on Cult Records and was produced by Julian Casablancas. And if that’s not enough to get you wet, check out the newly released tracks, and pre-order the album here. –Maya Eslami
