Rob Zombie, the musician, director, screenwriter, producer and lover of horror and gore and everything evil, has unleashed a new music video for the single “The Life And Times Of A Teenage Rock God”, off his sixth solo album, The Electric Warlock Acid Witch Satanic Orgy Celebration Dispenser. Try saying that fast. Rob Zombie has always pushed limits with the twisted ideas he harbors in his twisted imagination – remember House of 1000 Corpses? But this time around, and refreshingly so, he threw a little bit of humor into the mix.
The video opens with a Southern-drawled Devil decked out like Mr. T addressing the viewer as he reveals the secret to becoming a teenage rock god. Spoiler alert: all you need to do is sign over your soul. “Do you have to be talented? No. Do you need good looks? No – have you seen Bono?”
“I figured that a mixture of Three Amigos with a Dia de los Muertos twist by way of the opening credit sequence of Natural Born Killers hosted by a Satanic Paul Lynde would make the perfect video,” said Rob Zombie in the release. And that’s pretty much a perfect description of the video. Throw in some kaleidoscope visuals and black and white footage of flying saucers and the video becomes a pleasant joyride into the psyche of a maniacal genius. Enjoy. –Maya Eslami
