Listen to the Parrots Salty new music from Madrid

what youth recommends the parrots

Madrid three-piece The Parrots stormed through this years’ SXSW with heavy buzz, and with good reason. These dudes ooze a contagious sense of wild abandonment in their blend of garage psych I haven’t been reminded of since the Strange Boys. Led by Diego Garcia on vox/guitar, Alejandro de Lucas on bass and Daniel “Larry” Balboa on drums, The Parrots just announced their signing to Heavenly Recordings (Night Beats’ label) and premiered a new single today, “Let’s Do It Again”, a twangy indelible ride that’s pretty perfect for summertime. Check it out.

The single, per the press release, was recorded at Paco Loco studios, “an oasis near the beach in the south of Spain, whilst drinking beers and Horchata in a haze of elation and intoxication.” And it’s the first new slip of music since their 2015 EP Weed For The Parrots.

With drawled, distorted vocals reminiscent of Ryan Sambol of The Strange Boys, The Parrots pull me in right away with their salty, ramshackle harmonies, a feat not easily achieved. No wonder Heavenly Records swooped up these birds. If my guessing goes, The Parrots are definitely a band to watch. –Maya Eslami
