Dekka Vol. II Gallery and Zine Launch Derek Dunfee’s new photo zine and really good music by Tracy Bryant of Corners

A lot of what we see these days is very doctored up to make it look better. Travel magazines, surf magazines, tabloid magazines, fashion magazines, Instagram images etc. Everything nipped, tucked and cleaned up. Saturated and contrasted to death. But as I looked at Derek Dunfee’s work on the gallery walls at Open House Creative last weekend, I noticed how incredibly real they looked, and how they evoked actual memories from trips of my past. Dripping wet wetsuits covered in dirt hanging on the line. Cold and dreary mountains overlooking even colder slabs and big wave spots. Lonely dusty waves breaking along even dustier and lonelier roads. It’s the real shit. Black coffee, no cream type stuff that makes you want to wake up before the rest of the world and leave ’em sleeping in their beds.

Derek just released the second zine in his Dekka series that focuses on personalities and locations he’s both photographed and surfed himself. Another reason he’s one of our favorites. His photos have a fleeting sense, meaning he snapped them and then ran out there. That is rad.

On top of the photography, Tracy Bryant from Corners played a ridiculously tight show, backed by homies from Froth. Free House Beer was everywhere and Dekka II is officially out now. Check the photos from the night below.

Big thanks to Crap Eyewear, Derek Dunfee, Tony Acosta, Chase Eliot, Open House Creative and House Beer.
