Deadbeat Club is a compilation of artists and photographers that include Ed and Deana Templeton, Nolan Hall and Grant Hatfield. It’s an independent publishing group responsible for putting together small runs of zines. They also host release parties and photo exhibits and last October, they released some new zines in Long Beach, CA and we were there to rifle through them.
And by learning from past mistakes, I made sure to have cash on hand so I could leave with some of the new zines instead of the distracted party flip through and nod while the artists look on. One of the gems that I walked out with was Photographs by Spot.
Photographs by Spot is an amazing documentation of ’70s & ’80s punk and beach culture of Southern California. All by the man who recorded all of SSTs early releases. It’s all in there. Black Flag, Big Boys — all of it. Edited and silk screened covers in various colors by Ed Templeton in the classic 8.5″ x 5.5″ format. It’s a split release with Boo-Hooray, 36 pg. full-color photo zine on Color Laser Print Interiors. Edition of 500 (250 to Deadbeat Club/250 to Boo-Hooray)
A big thanks to Ed and The Deadbeat Club for rallying a great turn out and bringing people together to share art and photography in the community. And for making sick things always.
