BA and coming out as gay Giovanni Reda sits down with Brian Anderson for VICE Sports to discuss his coming out

VICES Sports released this piece on Brian Anderson’s decision to come out today and we really hope you’ll sit down and watch the whole thing.

It bums me out, and has for a long time, that in our cultures — surfing, skating, etc. — that we still have peers and friends among us who might be afraid to be their true selves around us. And that homophobia is something that continues to be so prevalent — especially within cultures that supposedly pride themselves on being open-minded, radical and socially acceptable of any sort of outsider you can imagine. We should be leading the way with acceptance. Which gives me even more reason to applaud and congratulate one of our favorite people to have beers with and watch skate, Brian Anderson, on his coming out publicly today in this very well-done piece by Giovanni Reda on VICE Sports.

Be you. Go shred. Fuck it. Love you, BA.—Travis

More from Vice Sports:

The skateboarding community worships Brian Anderson as a god, but for many years kept his sexuality a secret from nearly everyone in his life. Our guy Reda sat down with Brian and some of his closest friends to talk about being gay in the professional skateboarding industry and why he chose now to come out.
