Noa Deane in France filming for This is Us: France Collected Thoughts 047

Noa Deane in france for this is us france what youth surfing

Today was one of the weirdest days of filming ever. Fun. Sick vibes. But after a couple days of shredding we realized it’s going to get really flat later this week. We drove everywhere looking for waves this morning without much luck. Then the dice came out. The Doors. Pond. Iggy. A carton of Kronenberg, Heineken, some bottles of red. Then went surfing at 5PM. The boys (Noa Deane, Wade Goodall, Brendon Gibbens and Dion Agius) surfed a 2-foot shore break, super crowded (and a little drunk). We stood in the shoreline and shot film. Some crazy people down on the beach.
It’s now 10 PM and the sun is still up. Surreal and bright, just above. Staring at us all day. We’re eating nachos at Le Creme Cafe in the 10PM sunlight. Such a funny day. This is us France. Don’t know what’s going to happen this week. The boys are in cruise control. But we have some ideas. —Kai

Dane Reynolds on Public Transportation Collected Thoughts 003

This is Dane on the train to Osaka, in Japan. Osaka is about an hour from its airport and our exit flight left the next day, and as none of us had been to Osaka we decided to ride in and see the sights. The city turns out to be rad, like a smaller Tokyo,…

Craig Anderson between the bars Collected Thoughts 002

Photo by Kai Neville Kai took this photo of Craig a little before 1 a.m. in Brooklyn, New York. They’re leaving the strange party they wandered into after a Dirty Beaches show at Williamsburg’s Glasslands Gallery — truly they did, they sauntered all Australian through some odd open side door and into someone’s loft, where…

John John Florence in Barbados

John John in Barbados Collected Thoughts 001

This is John John Florence by the ghost of an Olympic pool at an abandoned resort in the parish of St. Lucy near the northern tip of Barbados, and what a useless cavity in the ground has he got here. The walls are too vertical to skate, there’s no water to ease the heat, there’s…
