Julian Klincewicz has the kind of name you hope you don’t have to type out too often. There are letters in it that don’t spend a lot of time next to each other and sounding it out just aint gonna work. But it’s one I nail every time now. Without looking. Written and spoken. And it’s because he’s so damn talented we just can’t help it. And you’re gonna want to remember it too.
We originally met Julian back in 2013 while filming for Fairly Normal: Dolan Stearns. We immediately fell in love with his honest and genuine nature.
At the time he was also in a band called Christy that used to play our parties (once we made a make-shift microphone out of a tripod for him and made him drink a glass of whiskey before he played). We’ve also used his music in a handful of What Youth videos including in Kolohe’s profile movie Brother.
Since then we’ve admired all of his creative endeavors. He went to Japan to pursue modeling and got covers of major fashion magazines. Then he went to Russia to work alongside Gosha Rubchinskiy. Through this he got discovered by Kanye West and worked with him as a part of the creative team for YEEZY. He’s also worked with brands like Calvin Klein, Supreme, Retro Super Future and ACNE. Now he’s focusing on his solo work where he wants to create worlds using any mediums that get him to the final product that conveys a particular emotion. He uses filmmaking, photography, writing, and other abstract things like collaging, silk flags and composing original music to create these worlds. We stayed with Julian at his apt in Brooklyn for a few days this week and got a tour of his neighborhood and what made him want to make the move from west to east coast. His creative process, and what exactly his “work” is. Julian is really one of a kind and we’re lucky that he let us into his world and we filmed all of it and are excited to share with you guys. He is the subject of an upcoming episode of the What Youth Artist Series. Coming Soon.
