Where has John Maus been? We hadn’t heard from him since 2012, and his absence left fans in mourning of what would – or wouldn’t – be of their beloved Maus. Just when we reluctantly got used to the idea that the political science scholar may have buried his eclectic musical persona forever, Maus began trickling clues a couple months ago in the form of show dates, before announcing a mini tour on his Twitter – which is the only source of social media he’s sort of active in (and by sort of I mean one tweet a year).

Well today, at 1am to be exact, Maus dropped a two minute teaser featuring himself as the goofball we all know and love. The video shares a taste of beautiful new sounds, beeps and bops, with a promise of something “coming this summer.”

For those unfamiliar with John Maus, he emerged almost a decade ago writing and performing experimental pop music, collaborating a lot with Ariel Pink before fully breaking off into his own entity. His performance style is famously known to be magnetic and full of energy, extremely physical, interactive, and hypnotic.

If you’re lucky like me and were able to snag a ticket to one of the few shows he’s playing, you’re without a doubt in for an experience. But with the tease of a new album, I’m sure Maus will be around just long enough before disappearing into his own private abyss. Again. –Asal Shahindoust
