I swung by Oblow’s house today to check in on the madness happening around his first solo art show — and surprisingly found him a very relaxed man. A kind of relaxed that only comes with months of preparation, hours of pouring resin, sanding, painting and a lifetime of collecting.
After digging through just a portion of the work, I can see why: 50 skate decks, all meticulously collaged, painted, resined, and ready to hang. Tons of pieces — all with acute and precise attention to detail that made me want to spend the rest of the day there inspecting what was hidden within the layers. There’s even a syringe embedded in resin with liquid still rolling around in it (Dibs on that piece!). But I got kicked out. They’re loading up the truck and heading for LA to hang the show today. I can’t wait to see it all come together in one place. —Scott
