For the Love: Froth Episode 017 Presented by Vissla

Just to be clear, Froth is not a surf rock band. Although that didn’t stop us from having them play Kolohe’s premiere of “Brother” at the Stance HQ a few weeks ago.

The L.A. locals just dropped their new album “Bleak,” but don’t let bleak be the definitive word for this band. Consciously straying away from the concept of the first album “Patterns,” Froth has grown more confident by making some blatant changes — like switching out the Omnichord for a second guitar, maturing in lyrical content and progressing from fuzzy garage rock to alternative rock that mixes in swirls of melodic shoegaze. We loved their first single and video (directed by homie Riley Blakeway) for the song “Postcard Radio.”

Joo-Joo Ashworth, Jeremy Katz, Cameron Allen and Cole Devine have locked down a signature style that kids get psyched on. They just finished their first European tour earlier this year where they swooned the hearts of the world.

We hung out with Joo-Joo, Jeremy and Cameron at their practice spot in Downtown L.A. where they shared all their dirty secrets with us.

Bleak is out now on Burger Records.

And if you’re in Southern California, come watch Froth at the Cosmic Creek Festival at Salt Creek in Dana Point on May 30th. They’ll be playing with Tropical Popsicle.
