Radical Class: Wintering in Cologne Eat, drink and be blown away by the countries that like it cold. (Pt. 2 of 3)

You’ll remember we started this frozen journey through Europe in Berlin. Today, we’re taking a ride to Cologne.

A quick hour flight from Berlin will take you to Cologne, in northwest Germany.

A couple days in Cologne is a perfect amount of time to see the city. Like Berlin, Cologne is chalked full of history, but is a bit more traditional in appearance. The city centers around the most famous church in Germany, the Cologne Cathedral. It’s a striking building to see in person and since the main train station is right next door, its hard to miss.

Our tour guide Marco took us for afternoon beers at Brauhaus Früh which is a 100 year old brewery specializing in Kölsh, a light beer that is only brewed in Cologne. They like to get you drunk there, and will keep bringing you rounds until you say no. We got drunk, washed down our beers with some traditional German sausages and pig knuckles. This is recommended.

Cologne is full of young people and that shows in the food and bar scene. Bali is a place that specializes in Indonesian food and man I would have not expected it to be as good as it was. Indonesian food in Germany sounds whack, but but trust me, it was insanely good. And girls definitely go there…

There are a bunch of cool bars within walking distance from Bali, all of which are fun.

I suggest you check out a few bars after dinner, then go back to the Cathedral for some nighttime selfies, then head downstairs in the train station for late night pretzels and more beers. Don’t take photos of the food workers down there or they will yell at you.

Next stop, Amsterdam! Its only a short train ride away!

Part 3 of our cold weather Europe tour with Adam continues next week.

How To: Stay in a Hotel By the worlds finest connoissuer of accomodation: Chas Smith

The greatest gift an adult can give himself is a night in a hotel. Hotels, and more specifically, hotel rooms, are portals that exist somewhere between fantasy and reality. They are neither truly real nor truly extraterrestrial. The fine hotel room will exude a sort of “all things are possible, sir” je ne sais quoi….
