North on 101 in a big white van With Andrew Doheny, Yago Dora, Dillon Perillo and Brendon Gibbens

15 hours in a 15 seater van is a lot of things. It’s super fun, disgusting, hilarious, ridiculous, illegal, terrifying and exactly what we want to be doing. And so we are.

We started the day in the beast vehicle at Denny’s on Century Blvd. by LAX. We walked in to pick up Yago Dora, who was eating inside a bustling Denny’s with his entire family, fresh off the jet from Florianopolis, Brazil.

“How’s Yago’s whole family going to fit in the van?” Droid asked genuinely concerned, assuming the whole family of 8 was coming with us. “Oh, don’t worry we’er just grabbing Yago.” He then ordered Eggs over My Hammy. To go.

When Yago finishes his Denny’s quesadilla we hit the road to grab Dill and Beeg from Malibu. Once assembled, we proceed to drive the van with all our shit into a super localized spot’s parking lot, where we luckily find people we know and luck out that the waves suck bad enough for us to surf without hassle. We wash off the cobwebs and then pile in.

What happens next is probably best watched in the film for the trip (which will be coming soon), but in short it was head banging, it was distortion-filled, it was a piss break every five minutes and it was long. But we are here. Further North than we were yesterday, so we’ll start here. Stay tuned to WhatYouth.com, to the Scrapbook page, our Insta page, and possibly an experiment in super macro Lizards of Summer footage on the What Youth Snapchat. We’ll see. We may not need that much technology in our life. But the shit that’s happening should be seen somehow. —Travis

Dear Youth The fun that leads to sleep paralysis

“Never trust a thought that didn’t come from walking.” That’s a quote by an old madman by the name of Friedrich Nietzsche. He’s an existential pioneer and had one hell of a dark passenger throughout his life. But the man sure did drop some wisdom while he was here. I bring this up as a bit…

Dear Youth A Treatise on Art and Coffee

Coffee is a drug. That’s masked by ubiquity and social acceptance but it’s just hot speed. Black hot wonderful speed. That thought lingered last Saturday morning as a nice young man in a waxed-cotton apron and mustache — and not a November mustache, but a real annual subscription to the thing — fixed my Guatemalan…
