My Indo Dream Wave Collected Thoughts 126: Nate Lawrence and the wave that started his Indo Obsession

what youth indo nate lawrence surfing waves

“For the better part of my teenage years I drooled at photos of this wave. I still do today” —Nate Lawrence

Editor’s Note: Nate Lawrence was there to document this wave when it was new. Timmy Tuner and Brett Schwartz and Travis Potter would venture to the jungles of Indo, get dropped off and wait for waves like this to come alive. [See Second Thoughts below] It was during a time when Indo was still being discovered, and they did it the old fashioned way. And I think this wave became the discovery that ignited the Indo fever we all have now. As surfers, stumbling upon this will change your life, as it did Nate and a lot of us. And it’s why we spend so much time there.—Travis

Watch the film “Second Thoughts” below if you’ve never seen it. It’s real and it’s real good. You’ll see the wave in the photo. Also, remember this is pre-GoPro:

Dane Reynolds on Public Transportation Collected Thoughts 003

This is Dane on the train to Osaka, in Japan. Osaka is about an hour from its airport and our exit flight left the next day, and as none of us had been to Osaka we decided to ride in and see the sights. The city turns out to be rad, like a smaller Tokyo,…

John John Florence in Barbados

John John in Barbados Collected Thoughts 001

This is John John Florence by the ghost of an Olympic pool at an abandoned resort in the parish of St. Lucy near the northern tip of Barbados, and what a useless cavity in the ground has he got here. The walls are too vertical to skate, there’s no water to ease the heat, there’s…
