Healey and Merle. How good are these two humans!

This photo was taken during my first real season spending time on the North Shore for Surfing Magazine. I wanted to photograph people in their homes and not the “team houses”. I liked each adventure of finding the house or room or tent that guys were in. Healy and Merle were checking the forecast on the computer and cracking jokes when I walked in. I said I wanted to photograph them doing just that, but when the camera came out the jokes stopped and they gave me a good stare. I really like surf magazine covers on the wall. It reminds me of being a kid.
