Color Me In: Brett Simpson & Matt Biolos Episode 002 Presented by Futures

When was the last time you talked to your shaper about Ian Mackay, Fugazi and Minor Threat? Well, we sure hope it was recently, because if not, you may have the wrong shaper — or you may not have one at all.

In this episode of Color Me In, we pick up Mayhem. Also known as Matt Biolos. And also known as a regular What Youth contributor, to go surfing. And not to be pigeonholed by anyone, we grabbed world tour surfer Brett Simpson — who has been a friend of ours since we did NSSA’s together — and went surfing at Uppers. We talked punk rock. What it’s like designing for one of the world’s best and being one of the world’s best. We also began to question the legitimacy of our old Minor Threat tees.

To reiterate: this show is a reminder. A reminder that contrary to all the mind-boggling experimentation and mathematics we know our shapers do by moonlight, they do in fact shred every day, and that if you’re not riding something shaped by someone you can surf and talk shit with, then it’s time to make a switch. Life’s too short not to know your shaper’s favorite band. And beer. Brett Simpson knows both. And so should you.
